What could be better than playing kickball inside of McLane Stadium? Kids who attend the stadium’s summer day camp will get that chance. And the fun doesn’t stop there.
“We’re an all-encompassing day camp,” said, Jordin Westbrook, McLane Stadium operations and events manager. “We do a little bit of everything, so the kids are constantly entertained.”
There are three individual sessions of the week-long camp—June 11-15, July 9-13, and July 30-Aug 3 (waitlist only). Camp hours are from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day. The campers rotate through seven different activities each day that not only engage them physically, but also keep their minds active as well.
“We do some science experiments, make picture frames, plant flowers, and we even had someone come in and teach us yoga last year,” Westbrook said. “This year we have someone lined up to teach us a little about the history of Waco.”
And on the last day of camp, the kids are treated to a water day where they get the chance to climb on inflatable water slides that are set up right on the stadium’s football field. This is the third year for the popular camp, and the operations and events manager said they’ve made some improvements that she thinks will give the kids an even better experience.
“The first year we tried to do a few ages in every group, but last year we did it strictly by age and we felt like that worked better,” she said. “They sit at the same table each day, and they’re with kids their own age, so it’s easier for them to make new friends. That’s been fun to watch.”
The stadium also provides parents the opportunity to drop their children off at 8 a.m. for an additional $25 fee. New this year is a lunch option for an additional $20, so parents don’t have to worry about packing their child’s lunch every day.
The camp is already filling up, so Westbrook encourages parents to register their children online at http://mclanestadiumsummercamp.myonlinecamp.com/. Forms cannot be filled out in person.
And if parents are looking for more information about the camp, they can contact Westbrook directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or (254) 710-8112.
