Google is Offering 3-D Animals to Be Displayed On Your Phone or Tablet

By Hooray for Family

Google has released 3-D photos of certain animals which allows you to bring the zoo into your home or your backyard. This new augmented reality (AR) technology offers a fun activity to do with your kids and family.  It also helps your kids learn about their favorite animal while stuck in quarantine.

Take photos with 3-D animals inside your home on your phone or tablet

Here's how to get the 3-D animals to appear:

  1. Google an animal on your phone or tablet.

  2. Look for a white box from Wikipedia and click on "view in 3-D" and the site will display an animated 3-D version on your screen.

  3. Click "view in your space" and you will be able to see an AR view of the animal.

  4. Be patient and move your camera around to place it where you want.  You can also move it with your fingers by touching the animal on your device and pinching the screen to make it larger or smaller.  The creature also mimics actual sounds such as grunts and growls making it ideal for realistic learning about animals while stuck at home.

Here's a list of some of the 3-D Animals that are available to Google:

Alligator

Brown Bear

Cat

Cheetah

Dog

Duck

Eagle

Goat

Hedgehog

Horse

Lion

Octopus

Panda

Shark

Snake

Tiger

Turtle

Wolf

**PLEASE NOTE**

There have been a few issues with this new augmented reality technology.

Your device needs to be either an Android smartphone or tablet with Android 7.0 or higher with pre-installed Google Play Store; or iPhone/iPad: iOS 11.0 or higher.

If you don't have the latest operating system installed then you just get a 3D animal that you can move around with a blank background.
