Your Resource For Local Family Fun

Spotlight on Spare Time Texas

Before Spare Time Texas came to Temple, there weren’t many places where a family could go to spend a fun evening together. But, today, the entertainment center has helped fill that void with bowling, laser tag, arcade games, and so much more.

“A lot of people think of us just as a bowling alley, but we offer various things,” said Spare Time Texas’ marketing manager, Ian Streckel. “We also have private event spaces, including the Pin House, which can be used for birthday parties or other get togethers.”

Along with top-notch entertainment, Streckel said Spare Time also has a full bar and restaurant that goes by the name Shaker’s. It boasts gourmet options like Santa Fe egg rolls, Mediterranean flatbread, a mushroom-swiss burger and endless other options for those looking for more than the typical bowling alley fare.

“We have some really great dishes, and people are always surprised,” the marketing manager said. “We also make sure we carry a lot of local craft beer and spirits. We try to keep that local flavor.”

All of these culinary masterpieces are executed with the customer in mind. Streckel said putting the guest’s experience first is what Spare Time is all about.

“We really try to give it our all,” he said. “You’ll often see our partners on the floor, being involved in helping the customers.”

Every employee is specially-trained, and the company emphasizes a strong work ethic even in its youngest employees.

“We try very hard to give them a good, solid foundation in business knowledge and customer service that they can take to their future careers,” Streckel said. “We’ve even had some people stick with us and become a part of our management team and our sales team.”

Along with training future members of the workforce, Spare Time also hopes to make an impact on the communities it serves.

“We want to be a destination for people’s events, but we also want to give back,” he said. “We’re just trying to put our best foot forward and be a fun place to be.”
