Ceramic painting, canvas creations and colored glass mosaics are just some of the art projects your child can explore when they attend one of Practically PIkasso’s summer camps.
“We want to familiarize children with what we offer so they’ll want to come back,” said one of the eclectic studio’s owners, Marie McClellan
The week-long camps are taught by a retired art teacher and begin the last week in June. While children will get the chance to experience the art mediums that the studio offers its customers on a daily basis, they will also have the opportunity to explore other artistic expressions.
“We’re opting not to do themed camps this year so that the children can lead the projects,” McClellan said. “It will be considered more of an all-variety camp. If they want to paint a food bowl for their dog, they can. Or if they want to paint a princess hand mirror, that’s okay, too.”
Each camp costs $120 per camper, and the studio offers discounts for siblings.
McClellan and the rest of the Practically Pikasso team just want children to have a fun place to forget about the uncertainties of the past year and be creative.
“We’re offering children a little slice of normalcy in a crazy world,” she said. “We want to give them recreation and fun.”
The Practically Pikasso team not only wants to provide an entertaining and engaging environment for their campers, but they also want to create a safe place for them to enjoy art.
“We put generous amounts of rubbing alcohol in our table spray and everything gets drenched,” McClellan said. “And when people leave, we thoroughly wipe down the tables, chairs, surfaces, and handles.”
The studio also submerges all washable materials touched by patrons in hot, soapy water and hands out paper instructions that can be thrown away.
These precautions are also taken during Practically Pikasso’s regular business hours, and McClellan said the studio can also make accommodations for family’s who are still interested in booking birthday parties or family events.
“We don’t open until one most days, so we’ve had people book events in the mornings before we open to the public,” she said. “They invite their close family and friends and can be more relaxed.”
