Enjoy the Wintry Weather with These Kid-Friendly Activities

While the snow might not be falling in Central Texas, winter is upon us, and there are so many ways to celebrate this unique time of year with your little ones.

Try some of these activities that will help them explore the wonders of the season and create lasting memories.

Create a snowy scene
If the weather is too chilly to venture outdoors, then why not enjoy the sights of the season indoors. No Time for Flashcards shows you how to help your kids create a wintry scene that is not only pretty, but gives them practice with their fine motor skills.

Just gather up some beauty products (Q-tips, cotton pads, cotton balls), some painters' tape and some contact paper and you have the supplies for hours of winter-themed fun.

Paint the snow
If you live in an area where you might get a lot of snow, or if by some miracle we get some snow in Central Texas, then this would be a great activity for kids large and small. Not only does this snow-painting craft make the world more colorful, but it gives kids a chance to make a mess that doesn't need to be cleaned up.

All you need are some spray bottles or squeeze bottles, some Kool-Aid packets and a yard full of fresh snow.

Make snowflake art
Kids love to get messy and create artwork, and this snowy craft is the best of both worlds. Just grab a canvas (or a large piece of cardboard) and create a snowflake shape with some painters' tape. Once the child is satisfied with the shape of their flake, then get out the paints and have them cover the canvas and tape to their hearts' desire. When the paint is completely dry, pull off the tape and you'll have a wonderfully wintry masterpiece to hang and enjoy.

Take a wintry bath

What could be better than playing with snow in the bath tub? This winter-themed bath creation will give your kids a taste of the winter weather without having to bundle them up in scarves and hats. With a little baking soda and water and with the help of your freezer, you can create snowballs that are not only tub-friendly, but also have cleaning and therapeutic qualities.

Build an igloo
If you're kids are like mine, they go through a lot of milk. Why not re-purpose your abundance of milk jugs into a kid-sized igloo that will not only get their brains and bodies working, but will give them a place to snuggle up with a book and hot cocoa on those days when it's too cold to play outside.

Make a treat for the birds
When the weather turns colder, it is often more difficult for small animals like birds and squirrels to find food. Why not use that giant box of Cheerios in your pantry to create some cute bird feeders that are not only pretty to look at, but will show your children how to care for the wildlife around them.
