Corn Flake Wreaths, a Christmas Family Tradition

My favorite part about the holiday season in Texas? The smell of Christmas! (And the cool but not frozen temps of December come in as a close second).

Among the sugar cookies and hot apple cider, another familiar scent wafting through the kitchen is the smell of Corn Flake wreaths. If you like Rice Krispies treats, this alternative made using Corn Flakes and green food coloring is a crowd pleaser.

After shaping the wreaths into circles, place the Red-Hot cinnamon candies on top to represent the holly berries. Kids love helping place them on these mini edible wreaths. But if your youngsters don’t like the taste of the cinnamon candy, you can swap them out for red M&Ms or red gumdrops.

Want a quick cheat? Instead of shaping them into wreaths, just “blob” them on the pan - or even make a pan full and slice them like you would Rice Krispies Treats.

What you need:

1/2 cup butter

4 cups miniature marshmallows

1 tsp. green food coloring

1/2 tsp. almond extract

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

4 cups Corn Flakes cereal

1 package of Red-Hot candies

To create your wreaths:

1. Melt your marshmallows in the butter on the stove with medium high heat. Stir often.

2. Add food coloring and extracts and stir well.

3. Quickly add cereal and stir well.

4. Drop spoonfuls on greased wax paper, shaping into wreaths if desired.

5. Decorate with red hot candies, or alternative

6. Store in an airtight container.
