Children’s Special Needs Network To Send Campers To Local Summer Camp

By Hooray for Family
(Temple, TX) – City of Temple Parks and Leisure Services is partnering with the Children's Special Needs Network to present Camp Fun Times, a mini-summer camp designed specifically for children, ages 6-17, with special needs. The camp, which features daily themed activities such as arts & crafts, snacks and games, will run from Monday, July 14th through Friday, July 18th from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Gober Party House in Temple. Up to 30 campers will be able to attend the camp, free of charge, courtesy of the Children's Special Needs Network; however space is extremely limited.

"We have added several new mini camps this summer, but we are super excited for this one," said Belinda Garcia, Program Coordinator for the City of Temple Parks and Leisure Services. "We are branching out to offer a variety of activities to all children and are ready to give these kids an awesome summer camp experience they won't forget."

Each day at Camp Fun Times will feature a different theme such as Aloha Camp, Ooey Gooey Fun Sensory Day, Under The Big Top Carnival, Wild About Animals, and Wild, Wild West. The week will be packed full of fun activities such as a luau, a bounce house, balloon art, an animal show from the Fishbowl Pet Express, and a Cowboy Cookout lunch for the campers and their parents, provided by Allumed Medical Supply Company.

While the kids are at camp, mom's and caretakers can head over to E'lan Salon and Spa for a free morning of pampering on Monday, July 14th. "We understand that being a caregiver of a child with special needs is very demanding and if we can give fifteen minutes of relaxation to them, it is truly an honor," said Angelia Bass, owner of E'Lan Salon and Spa. Services include 15-minute pedicures, makeup sessions, chair massages and hairstyling sessions. Spa services must be scheduled in advance.

Volunteers (ages 15 and up) are also sought to help assist during Camp Fun Times. For more information or to register, please contact Belinda Garcia at 298-5733.
