4 Tips to Help Combat Cold-Weather Skin Issues

When temperatures drop and you can feel the chill of the air through your leggings, it’s time to start preparing for the fight against dry, itchy, uneven winter skin. While wrapping your infinity scarf around your face and pulling up your Ugg boots will keep you covered when a norther sweeps through Central Texas, it won’t help combat those pesky cold weather skin issues.

In order to combat these problems you’ll need a plan that will get you to spring. Here are some ideas for keeping your dermis looking dreamy even when Jack Frost is nipping at your nose.

1. Exfoliate

There’s nothing worse than waking up in the morning and seeing those attractive dry skin patches that often accompany the changing weather. In order to retain your youthful glow and get rid of those troublesome areas, try exfoliating at least once a week.

There are tons of exfoliating scrubs on the market, but if you want to make your own, then try making  Cinnamon Vanilla Sugar Scrubs from Odds and Evans. Not only will it brush away your dry skin, but it will also make you smell yummy.

2. Moisturize

Once you’ve exfoliated and discarded your dry skin patches, you’ll want to rehydrate your skin with a great moisturizer. Whether you lather on the lotion or moisturizing cream, the best time to apply these treatments is right after a bath or shower. This will create a barrier from the cold, dry air and help to keep moisture in.

And if you want to start sealing in moisture before you even step out of the shower, then try these Coconut Oil In-Shower Lotion Bars from Coffee With Us 3. Who doesn’t want to have silky skin and smell like a tropical island?

3. Use Lip Balm

Your skin isn’t the only victim of cooler temperatures and icy breezes. Your lips can take a beating in winter, too. The best way to keep your lips from looking like a pair of prunes is to keep some lip balm on hand. Apply several times a day and keep your face covered as much as possible when you’re exposed to the elements.

You can make your own lip balm with this Peppermint recipe from Mom4Real.com. It will keep your lips protected and smelling sweet.

4. Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is often thought of as a hot weather tip because you lose so much moisture from prolonged exposure to heat. But because the air is so dry during the winter months, it’s actually just as important to keep up with your liquid intake in the colder weather as well.

While drinking plenty of water isn’t always the most fun, especially when a steaming cup of designer coffee or hot chocolate sounds much better, it can be important to your overall health. So, if you need a little incentive to drink your eight glasses a day, then try adding some fruit to your water.
