Last-Minute Valentine’s Ideas That Won’t Break the Bank

If you just looked at the calendar and realized that today is Valentine’s Day, have no fear. We’ve compiled a list of inexpensive ideas to let your spouse or significant other know just how much you care without spending a lot.

1. Create “Open When…” notes

To complete this Valentine’s project, gather several envelopes and paper to write notes. On each envelope, write statements like “open when you’re mad at me” or “open when you need some encouragement,” and write a corresponding note to go in each envelope. These little letters to your love will let them know that you’re thinking about them in every situation—good or bad.

2. Make a “Reasons I Love You” notebook

Find or purchase a small spiral notebook and write a letter of the alphabet on each page. Under each letter, write a reason (starting with that letter) that you love your spouse. It will not only allow the person to have written proof of your adoration, but it will also allow you to see all the ways your significant other blesses your life.

3. Have a date night in

There are so many ways to celebrate your loved one without spending a fortune on dinner reservations and a babysitter for the evening. You could turn the lights off and eat dinner by candlelight. Or you sit in the living room and play a board game. And if the weather is nice, you could go for a walk together or throw the Frisbee around the backyard.

4. Make your loved one a meal

For many people, their hearts are connected to their stomachs. So, making their favorite dessert or breakfast foods can be a great way to show someone you care. And creating a meal for your spouse not only fills their belly, but is also a great way to serve them and pamper them.

5. Let your spouse sleep

Husbands, if you have small children, the best gift you can give your wife is a nap or a chance to sleep in. I promise it will mean more than a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates.

So, if you’re standing in line right now at the grocery store with your last-minute gift, consider putting back the sappy card and the over-sized teddy bear and doing something from the heart.
